Avert has worked with the Umunthu Foundation for over 10 years. Initially through direct funding, Avert supported Umunthu Foundation to work with the two local government clinics in the area, providing staff to support the daily HIV testing of pregnant mothers, and establishing an HIV testing, treatment and care clinic at its office. The clinic still regularly cares for over 400 people with HIV, and tests over 100 people every month. With the support of ViiV Healthcare Positive Action grant funding, Avert also provided technical support to Umunthu for an HIV mother and baby programme in Blantyre.
We have been working with Avert for over 10 years. We have greatly appreciated their technical and strategic support and partnership. Their knowledge of community based responses, prevention, health communications and working with vulnerable populations has helped ensure that Umunthu is delivering a valued quality service to its local community.
Umunthu Foundation is a local NGO working to improve the quality of life for people affected by HIV, and other vulnerable groups, in underserved communities of Blantyre, Malawi. Umunthu provides comprehensive HIV services; promotes human rights and gender equity; and works to alleviate poverty.
